|
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) is investigating the death of a one-year-old boy, who was killed by the family’s pit bull Jan. 14. Just before 8 p.m., deputies reported to a residence in the 27000 block of Medina Circle in west Montgomery County. When deputies arrived and entered the home they found that 23-month-old Jace Paul Valdez had been brutally mauled to death by the family’s pit bull. As deputies tried to control the dog, the dog turned on a deputy and lunged at him, according to MCSO reports. The deputy shot and killed the dog inside of the home. The grandmother was the only one home with the child when he was attacked. The call for help was made by the victim’s grandfather when he arrived, reports stated. The 45-year-old grandmother was not injured by the dog, but she had to be taken by ambulance to a local hospital due to the emotional trauma. MCSO said the home where the incident occurred belonged to the child’s grandparents. The victim and his mother had been living with the grandparents for about four or five months, Lt. Dan Norris said. On the night of the incident, the mother was in Spring visiting friends and the father was in Louisiana on business. Norris said the mother was interviewed later that evening. According to Norris, the seven or eight-year-old male pit bull belonged to the grandparents. There was no previous call history listed with MCSO for the residence, he stated. Investigators were conducting interviews with the family and neighbors. No criminal charges had been filed as of press time last week. When the investigation has been completed the case facts and evidence will be reviewed by the Montgomery County District Attorney’s office, Norris stated.
