Magnolia man’s job loss leads to his arrest

william sexton A Magnolia man who was fired from his job for drug use sank deeper into trouble, when he was arrested for drug possession and child pornography recently.

William Sexton, 38, was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamines, after deputies from the Montgomery County Precinct 5 Constable’s Office and the Harris County Precinct 4 cyber crimes division conducted a search of Sexton’s home.

Sexton’s troubles began when his employer called him in for a performance evaluation. According to police, officials at his employer believed he was impaired during the evaluation and asked him to submit to drug testing. According to police records, Sexton, an IT tech, was fired once his results came back positive for meth.

After Sexton’s termination, officials at his former company went through a routine clean-up of his assigned laptop computer, when they discovered approximately 150 pornographic images of children.

After the company contacted Montgomery County Precinct 5 deputies, officials from that agency contacted the cyber crimes division of Harris County Precinct 4. Once officers started to jointly investigate, they realized the cyber crimes unit had an active investigation into Sexton’s next-door neighbor.

After securing a search warrant, deputies arrived to find Sexton outside and promptly arrested him. While searching Sexton they allegedly found drug paraphernalia and meth in his pocket.

After securing nearly 30 hard drives and several computers from Sexton’s residence, the officers went to the neighbor’s home and received a surprise. The resident was an elderly woman, who investigators learned had an unsecured wireless internet connection. Detectives subsequently learned that Sexton had been using her wireless connection to get on the internet.

Sexton was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance. Lt. J. Buchanan, of the Montgomery County Precinct 5 Constable’s Office, said 10 charges related to child pornography have been forwarded to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s office for review.

Sexton is currently on probation in Harris County for forgery.
