CORRECTION: This article was updated to correct that the postal service contacted Tomball police regarding the package.

A man and a woman were arrested by the Tomball Police Department (TPD) Jan. 28, after detectives said they were caught accepting a USPS package full of marijuana.

Detectives with TPD charged Brittney Mize, 21, of Tomball and Verna Mize, 20, of Magnolia, with Possession of a Marijuana, after they observed the two accepting a USPS package full of marijuana.

Detectives said that members of the postal service smelled marijuana inside the damaged parcel and called police. Officers then responded to an apartment complex where Brittney Mize lives.

“Patrol officers got a call for a suspicious package and officers alerted (detectives),” a TPD detective said. “We went to investigate.”

Detectives had the apartment complex follow their parcel delivery policy, which ultimately led to the pair accepting the package, before being arrested, officials allege.

Both were charged with Possession of a Marijuana between 2 to 4 ounces and both bonded out of jail.

Brittney Mize has no criminal record in Harris County, according to court records. She was set for arraignment on Feb. 3.

Court records show that Verna Mize has a history of theft, with two separate incidents involving theft of clothing from an individual, including jeans, shirts and jerseys. He was sentenced to time in Harris County jail in both cases.

Verna Mize was also set for arraignment on Feb. 3.
