| Case against Tomball mom accused of assaulting daughter dismissed |
|
Karen McAdams, 35, was arrested April 23 after she claims she spanked her 15-year-old daughter for running away from home. After the incident, her daughter called Tomball Police, who interviewed both McAdams and her daughter.
After investigating the incident, McAdams was placed under arrest after Tomball Police said they found evidence to suggest more than a spanking had occurred.
However, at a May 8 hearing in the Harris County Criminal Court, the Harris County District Attorney’s Office chose to dismiss the case against McAdams.
According to George Flynn, a spokesperson for the DA’s office, the prosecuting attorney dropped the case at the request of Child Protective Services.
McAdams commended representatives from the DA’s office, the county court and CPS for hearing her side of the story.
“The DA’s office was really good with me, CPS, they took the time to listen to everything that happened in this incident,” she said. “They were really on my side.”
McAdams said once she stated her case, she felt the case would be dismissed.
“Once they listened to what I had to say, they were in agreement that I didn’t do anything wrong,” she said. “The court appointed an attorney who called the DA’s office and listened to everything. They asked to call CPS to verify my story, and I’m glad they did.”
McAdams said her daughter, who had been removed from her home by CPS after the incident, has yet to return home but is seeking treatment from a mental health facility in Brookshire.
“We’re going to figure out the root of the problem,” she said.
In previous interviews, McAdams said her daughter once ran away with a 47-year-old man when she was younger, and that McAdams found a condom wrapper in her daughter’s closet.
McAdams also corrected a previous media report that stated she found a syringe in her daughter’s room. She said it was not a syringe, but rather a device used for smoking marijuana.
