Both Bowden and Sundquist resigned the week of June 14. Bowden had served on the Chamber Board of Directors for more than a decade.

He declined to comment as to why he resigned from the Board.

“I wish the Chamber well,” he said. “But sometimes it’s best to leave the pot unstirred.”

Sundquist was named President of the Chamber in September 1996 and served for 13 years. She cited “personal reasons” for her decision to resign from the Chamber.

“I felt as though it was time to move on and explore other options,” she said. “I wish the Chamber well. I’ve watched it grow and prosper over the last decade.”

L.J. Skibbe was chosen by the remaining members on the board to serve as the Chamber’s Director of Operations until a new president can be appointed.

Carolyn Bruton, Chair-elect for the Board, was sworn in to replace Bowden after his resignation.

According to Skibbe, the Chamber board will meet July 16 when they could potentially name a new President.

During Sundquist’s time as President, the Magnolia Chamber of Commerce was involved in several community events, including sponsoring the city’s annual Christmas Parade and Miss Magnolia Pageant.

“A lot of good things are happening right now,” she said.

She also cited a need to improve the city’s infrastructure in the coming years as a priority for city leaders.

“I hope the city will expand its infrastructure possibilities,” Sundquist said. “That is definitely needed.”

Sundquist added that she is currently considering other employment opportunities and has “no idea yet” what she may choose to do.
