| Kelley addresses discrepancy on resume |
|
City Administrator of Magnolia Ryan Kelley presented false information on his resume when he applied for his position at City Hall in September 2007, according to documents obtained by the Tribune.
According to documents obtained through a public information request, Kelley was employed as city administrator of Pilot Point from May 2, 2005, until June 9, 2006. However, on the resume that Kelley submitted to the City of Magnolia on September 26, 2007, Kelley listed the dates of his employment with Pilot Point as “2005-Present.” Kelley was appointed city administrator of Magnolia in January of 2008. The City of Pilot Point did not provide information on the circumstances surrounding his departure; however, a special city council meeting was called on May 26, 2006 in Pilot Point and according to the agenda, it listed only an executive session regarding “Discussion Regarding Review of City Administrator Ryan Kelley” along with an open session discussing it, as well. According to a public information request to the city, the meeting was cancelled and “no minutes exist.” Kelley said it was simply a mistake on his part and that the Council knew of the discrepancy when they hired him. However, former Councilman Dave Sutherland, who was on the Council when Kelley was hired, said he was never made aware of the discrepancy on Kelley’s resume. “I absolutely did not know,” Sutherland said. “He never did explain it that I ever heard.” Mayor Jimmy Thornton also admitted he wasn’t aware of the inconsistencies on Kelley’s resume. Kelley said he used a template on his computer to create the resume and simply “wasn’t careful enough” to change the dates of his employment on it. “I did not put forward in any way that I was still working for the city,” he said. “When I interviewed with the city (Magnolia) they knew I didn’t work there,” he said. He said he was living in Austin when he applied for the position and that his Austin address was listed on his cover letter and resume when he submitted it to the city. “It would be a pretty illogical person to look at a resume and think someone worked in a city that was 300 miles away from where they lived,” he said. “It was obvious it was just a mistake.”

There is no excuse for such a major discrepancy on a resume! Either Kelley is so careless that he forgot he hadn't worked at Pilot Point for well over a year or he just plain lied on his resume. Either way a person like that does not need to be in the position of City Administrator and Director of 4A & 4B. I would like to know why he left Pilot Point and where he was for almost a year and a half. He certainly didn't say anything to the City Council at his interview. And how is it that his resume follows so closely with the work that Burditt Co. (Kelley's cousin???) is doing for Magnolia for millions of dollars in contracts. This whole thing smells bad and someone on City Council had to know about it. It wasn't me or the Mayor. But Kelley did tell me persoally that he has lunch almost daily with Jonny Williams (4A & 4B) and Patsy (Councilmember). Sounds too cozy to me. There are so many questions that need to be answered and there is too much money at risk. 4A, 4B and the City Council better look into this situation and fix it before the City gets into serious trouble.

The mayor said he didn't but did he ??? How many job's has Kelley cost the City so far and how much money has been lost ??? He lived with Johnny & Patsy Williams could be the reason they were seen daily and also spent several nights in the private room behind the court ?? Guess he forgot that also .. City Council fix it ?? No the citizens have to fix it .....

Well, here we go again. Folks, remember how much money we had to spend on the new city hall. Same song second verse. Kin Folks. Now it seems that Burditt and Kelley are cousins???? The price of the park and downtown re-vitalization would really be done in several phases and for a total of approximately $10,000,000, not the $3.5 million as proposed in the CO's. (Happy we made them go with RB on the first phase.)
We need to step back and see why Kelley submitted a resume that was not accurate. Tell us Mr. Kelley we really need to know if you did live with the Williams and in the back office of city hall. With the salary you are making you could certainly afforded an apartment.

Discrepancies Mr. Kelley, an honest mistake, please, sorry, just not buying it. When updating a resume and applying for employment you sure do not want your prospective employers to think you are not CAPABLE of providing them with current, accurate information (especially as an Administrator making $80,000 plus a year). It’s not like it was minor issues like some typo’s or a couple of weeks or a month that was not updated. According to the paper you left 19 MONTHS out, A year and seven (7) months Mr. Kelley and then said you worked for Pilot Point from 2005 to Present when you submitted you resume to Magnolia. If any Magnolia citizen would have received your resume (AND READ IT) we would be lead to believe you still worked for Pilot Point, we will get back to this.
You submitted to the City of Magnolia your resume on September 26th 2007, that’s 15 months after you left Pilot Point (June 9th 2006)for UNKNOWN reasons, and the City of Magnolia hired you on January 2008. What do you want us to believe, you did not work from the time you left Pilot Point in June of 2006 until you were hired by Magnolia in 2008? Were you employed by Burditt until Magnolia hired you? Honestly, all of this may have been a mistake, a discrepancy like Mr. Kelley said, but that red FLAG keeps popping up Mr. Scott, where are you. The Mayor and Council will not explain to us any of their decisions because they know best what’s good for us. Well hold on to what little money you have left because the City is hurting and it’s because of the poor decisions made by your Mayor and Council. So, Mayor and council who did Mr. Kelley’s background, did you read his resume? Who interview and made the decision that he was the BEST applicant to run the City? Did anyone call Pilot Point to check on his employment there for 13 months? It’s apparent that Kelley’s just another PLAYER that is willing to do the Mayors and Councils bidding and soon he, (Kelley) will become just another scapegoat and will be blamed for all the problems in Magnolia. We only have the Mayor and Council to thank for their immoral and unethical back door deals they continue to make for the people all in the name of Politics.

Just read the Mail Bag in the paper (Tribune). Everyone needs to read it and then demand an explanation from Williams’, Sisters in Christ Patsy, sisters with whom? Please explain the email Patsy. No, you don’t have to you’ll only put your own spin on it and claim “I m just a women.” It’s pretty straight forward, what are you so afraid of, or what is it that you are trying to hide? We know there are other emails out there and they too will come forward to expose you for what you are. So this is how you got your vote of no confidence. You email other employees and councilmember’s and ask for their help. If that employee doesn’t help you or say what you want them to say, do you go after them? Your sick.
What are you, some kind of political monster does the power mean that much to you that you are willing to defame others for your own self satisfaction, what gives you the right? Mr. Scott what information does Williams have on you, since you set this whole thing up and made everyone believe nothing was going to happen, then second the vote, who are you? And for the rest of the so called councilmember’s I guess you enjoy watching Williams play with other peoples livelihoods I guess you get a big laugh out of it. Is this what ya’ll do behind closed doors? Who’s next? Thanks Mrs. Windham for sharing this and the other information about Williams and the Mayor, not to mention paying for Williams and Kana’s City Insurance.

Exposed has a very good question. Did Kelley work for Burditt after he left Pilot Point? We need to know because if he did, directly or indirectly, that would explain why his resume read like a story book of what Magnolia was working on. Talk about "funneling infomation". Remember, Burditt is getting millions of dollars worth of contracts from 4A, 4b and the City and Kelley is the Administrator and the Director. What a conflict of interest.

I'm under the impression that the city should have done more to fact check the resume, it does indeed sound like a mistake on a resume template. Should it have been avoided? Yes. Could it have been? Very easily. Did the city do ANY fact checking on this resume, which is as easy as calling Pilot Point for confirmation of the information provided? I highly doubt it. But that's the entire point of resumes. Besides, I've worked with those templates and if you're careless at any point you'll end up putting down the wrong information. It could have been an error. If it's the only error, all the more reason to believe it was a fluke.

Good point Ryan. The rest of you are wasting your time and talent here, you should be writing fiction. You've gotten a great start with names like "exposed", "littlemissmuf45" and "citizen cane" I don't have much respect for anyone that can't stand on their own two feet, why hide behind the make beleive? Oh wait! I get it you are writing fiction!

Let's just put this whole matter to bed. There was an "error" on Kelley's resume. Now we know he didn't work at Pilot Point for 16 months before he came to Magnolia. If the Council knew this at his interview I'm sure SOMEONE would have asked "where have you been, what have you been doing and why did you leave?". Simple questions that require simple, honest answers. Why dosen't Kelley just do that?

Maybe he has answered these questions, to those who matter. He's not an elected official and probably doesn't have to make his responses public. Especially to people like you.

Back on topic.
Attack Ryan Kelley if you like, there are a couple of important questions that have not been addressed. Former Councilman Dave Sutherland and Mayor Thornton did not know of the inconsistencies on Mr. Kelley's resume. Question 1. Why did they not know about the inconsistencies on the resume? Question 2. Who did know about the inconsistencies on the resume during the interview and hiring process but kept the information from Sutherland and Thornton? While Mr. Kelley is not an elected official, that does not make him immune to the public. Does the funding for his paycheck come from collected taxes or any city revenue? If so, the public has a right to know. Write comment
