Volunteer Alejandro Vargas Solorio fills up plastic bags with fresh carrots for recipients of The Montgomery County Food Bank’s Food Fair Sept. 16 at the Montgomery County Community Center on Friendship Drive. More than 30,000 pounds of food were made available for those who participated, according to Adriana Camarillo, the food bank’s manager. The fair, which coincided with Hunger Awareness Month, opened at 3 p.m., and by 5 p.m. the bank had served more than 300 people. More than 50 volunteers, many with the Society of Samaritans, who worked in conjunction with the fair, helped distribute the food items, which included milk, eggs and fresh vegetables. The Bank holds food fairs like this one twice a year, said Camarillo. The next will be held in the second week of December.
