| Police investigating death of 7-month-old baby |
|
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 7-month-old baby in Northwest Harris County that occurred Sept. 28. According to Dep. Thomas Gilliland, the baby was brought to Tomball Regional Medical Center by his 27-year-old mother at approximately 10 p.m. The baby was pronounced dead on arrival, and “may have been dead for several hours,” Gilliland said. The mother had come to the hospital from a home located in the 1200 block of Piney Bend Road. Media reports state that the baby may have been left in a car at the location, but Gilliland would neither confirm nor deny those reports. A Harris County Pct. 5 Constable was on duty at the hospital and made the call the Sheriff’s Office. Gilliland said homicide investigators arrived at the hospital at approximately 10:50 p.m. No arrests have been made in the case and an autopsy by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office was scheduled for Tuesday. Gilliland said that despite the involvement of the homicide division of the Sheriff’s Office, it’s too early to determine if the incident is, in fact, a homicide. “Our homicide units are called automatically on all child deaths when the child is 6 or under,” he said.
