Police still searching for suspects in elderly assault case

More than a week after an elderly Tomball couple was brutally assaulted during a home invasion, police have yet to make an arrest or identify potential suspects in the case.

“We’re doing everything we can,” Tomball Police Capt. Rickey Doerre said last week. “We have plenty of outside support, but we just don’t have a lot to go on right now.”

On Oct. 12 at approximately 10 p.m. three males broke into a home located on Hufsmith Korhville and attacked an electronic wheelchair-bound 81-year-old male, demanding money and property. The man’s wife had just finished dropping her great-grand daughter off at her home when she was attacked.

According to Doerre, the woman was bound with duct tape and the male was assaulted about the head and face with a handgun. Doerre said the suspects were demanding the combination to a safe they found in a bedroom.

“I honestly don’t think he knew it,” he said.

The wife gave the combination to the suspects, who beat her, as well. Doerre said they took cash and jewelry from the home, but declined to state how much.

At this point in the investigation, Doerre said police do not believe the suspects knew the victims had a safe in the home, or that the victims knew their attackers.

According to Tomball Police, detectives, crime scene investigators and K-9 units were called to the scene to assist in the interview of witnesses, search for suspects and collection of evidence. In adddition, air support units were utilized to search for the suspects from the air.

Doerre said the only description the victims were able to provide were that the three suspects were dressed completely in black, “from hoods, to black shirts, to pants.” He added that the victims could not determine the suspects’ race or any other identifiers.

However, some evidence has been collected from the scene, Doerre said.

A member of the Texas Rangers has taken evidence from the scene to a DPS lab in Austin to be analyzed, and the Harris County Sheriff’s Office has offered assistance “to help the process,” Doerre said.

Some of the basic evidence found at the scene includes shoe prints, duct tape and hair fibers.

“But we’re kind of at a loss right now,” Doerre added.

Tomball Police reported that both victims were taken to Tomball Regional Hospital were they were treated and released that night. Doerre said the male victim suffered a broken orbital bone, jaw and nose. The female victim suffered superficial wounds, such as bruises and scrapes.

Any and all information pertaining to this case should be directed to Detective Brandon Plagens, Tomball Police Department, Criminal Investigations Division at 281-290-1315.

Perhaps if the Tomball cops would quit nit picking at all traffic and speeding minor violations they could get their fat butts out of their patrol cars and catch some REAL criminals for a change. We are sick and tired of the Tomball cops doing nothing but handing out speed tickets...are these real police we have or just "speed and weed cops"...we need our neighborhoods protected not forgotten..do something...get the numerous radar police out there to do some real police work.
