MHS senior Noland crowned 2009 Miss Magnolia

MissMagnoliaLike millions of other girls across the country, Breanna Noland received a bouquet of flowers for Valentine’s Day. But she also received something that won’t eventually wilt away: the title of Miss Magnolia 2009.

Held Feb. 14 at Magnolia High School, this year’s pageant included 22 contestants, all students in Magnolia ISD.

Noland, a 17-year-old junior at Magnolia High School, said she entered the pageant because "it sounded fun" and she "thought it would be a good experience."

"I really had a good time," Noland said. "It was a very good experience. I would definitely do it again."

She said that she was "pleasantly surprised" to find out how nice all the other girls in the competition were. "It was awesome. Everyone was so extremely sweet."

Before the pageant all 22 girls were treated to a "Fun Day" where they learned skills to help them compete in the pageant. The girls learned how to walk properly during the pageant, speak distinctly in front of an audience and other general pageant techniques.

Noland said that besides a "very good scholarship," she took away some useful life skills.

"I learned through the competition how to be comfortable in front of a large crowd," she said. "I learned a lot during this pageant."

Miss Magnolia receives a college scholarship worth $1,500, the first runner-up receives a scholarship worth $500 and second runner-up receives a scholarship worth $300.

Noland said that she is excited to get started with her duties as 2009 Miss Magnolia.

"I know I will be busy," she said. "But I'm excited to get started."

Noland is a cheerleader at Magnolia High School, a Diamond Dolls member and also works on the Yearbook staff.

She said she is still deciding which college she will attend, but wants to focus on pediatrics while in school.

"I really like working with kids. Being a pediatrician would be great."

Also at the pageant, Carter Ingram was named first runner-up, Ashley Kyle was named second runner-up, Alex Romano was named third runner-up and Corinne Cathryn Strong was named fourth runner-up.

The other contestants named Grace Gallo "Miss Congeniality" and Ele Stewart garnered the People's Choice Award from the audience.

Debbie Lambert-Maxwell chaired the event and Whitney Washam, Miss Magnolia 2006, directed the pageant.
