Homecoming queen Hopper named new Miss Tomball

The annual Miss Tomball Pageant on Nov. 21 drew more than a thousand guests and crowned a Tomball High School senior who is already a Queen – Homecoming Queen that is.

Brooke Hopper, 17, a senior at THS and a member of the varsity volleyball team, was named Miss Tomball after being crowed Homecoming Queen only one month before at the Homecoming football game Oct. 23.

Hopper, who was second runner-up in last year’s Miss Tomball pageant, was one of 45 contestants who competed for the title at Salem Lutheran Church in Tomball.

The event marked the 44th time the pageant has been held in Tomball and the first time it has been held at Salem Lutheran. It had previously been held in the auditorium of Tomball Intermediate School.

The top five were: Hopper, first place, Lacey Reed, first runner-up, Katie Fowler, second runner-up, Courtney Comeaux, third runner-up and Jennifer Scott, fourth runner-up.

With the advent of a new and bigger venue with more technical capabilities including stage lighting, pageant organizers were elated.

“It was just incredible,” said Tomball Chamber of Commerce special events director Faye Drennan of this year’s pageant. “The new venue was awesome. The new technology and the things we were able to do with it, we’re thrilled.”

Drennan said the Chamber estimated there were around 1,100 guests who attended the pageant, which is held annually in November.

Among the many people who attended were previous Miss Tomball title holders, the current Miss Magnolia, Breanna Noland, Chamber president Bruce Hillegeist and other community leaders.

This year’s event saw 45 contestants, slightly more than last year’s number of 42.

“We tried to stay between 40 and 45,” said Drennan. “We’ve had as many as 52 but that’s really hard.”

As the winner, Hopper earned a $1,000 scholarship and several prizes from sponsors of the pageant, including hair care products, a fitness membership and spa treatments, all of which she will get free for a year.

During her reign, Hopper will attend Chamber events as the city’s representative.

“She becomes the city’s ambassador,” said Drennan.
