Rain at the parade doesn’t dampen Magnolia Christmas cheer

Two town parades and two soggy days for the local community after the Magnolia Christmas Parade battled cold weather and a start-and-stop drizzle Dec. 12.

However, the dreary weather did nothing to keep Magnolia residents from lining the parade route streets in some places three deep to catch a glimpse of their neighbors, children or government representatives who participated in the parade.

The parade marshal, 4A Community Development Corp. Chairman Jonny Williams kicked off the procession, followed by the Magnolia High School ROTC. Members of the Magnolia City Council followed ahead of Pct. 4 Constable David Hill.

According to the Magnolia Area Chamber of Commerce, which sponsored the annual parade, 77 entrants took part in this year’s event.

Emceeing the event was longtime Magnolia resident and teacher Nita McNulty. Judges also awarded prizes in several categories.

This year’s winners were:

·         Best Congregation – Magnolia Freewill Baptist Church

·         Best Commercial Float – Advanced Electrical

·         Best Non-Commercial Float – Magnolia High School Student Council

·         Best Marching Unit – Magnolia West High School Band

·         Best Mounted Unit – Lone Star Cowgirls

Best Vehicle – William Gardner

Thanks Tribune for the pictures.. Very proud of all that endured the parade in the chilly rain. The only sad part was not seeing someone as the Grand Marshal that deserved it, even from out of town. To see a man put in that position that has done so much backing his wife to destroy the City really bothered a lot of people. www.savemagnolia.net
