City of Magnolia accepting applications for May election

Those interested in a council or Mayoral seat in Magnolia have until March 8 to file a ballot of intent to run.

In the city of Magnolia, three spots are up for election in the 2010 municipal race: Mayor Jimmy Thornton, Councilman Buhrl “Jody” Sanders and Councilwoman Patsy Williams.

Council and mayor positions are two-year terms.

Applicants must be over the age of 18 years old at the beginning of their term in elected office, a citizen of the United States, have lived in Texas for at least 12 months, a resident of the city of Magnolia for at least 6 months and have no felony convictions.

Office hours at Magnolia city hall are Mon.-Thurs. 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Fridays 7 to 11 a.m.

Applicants may file in person or by mail at city hall, located at 18111 Buddy Riley Blvd.

Election day is May 8.
