| Election Update: Magnolia council members, Fagan join race |
|
Magnolia city council member Todd Kana has put his hat in the ring for Magnolia’s mayoral seat, making him the first candidate to file to run for the seat in this year’s election. Kana was elected to the city council in 2005 and re-elected in 2007. Current mayor Jimmy Thornton had not submitted his application to the city as of press time last week. Along with the position of mayor, two other seats are up for re-election this year, position 5, council member and Mayor Pro Tem Patsy Williams’ seat and position 4, council member Burhl “Jody” Sanders’ seat. Sanders, along with former seat holder David Sutherland, have both filed for position 4. Williams, who has been on the city council since 1992, has filed for re-election. Meanwhile in Tomball, Mayor Gretchen Fagan announced her plans last week to run for re-election. She is facing at least one opponent in Judith Wilson. In the Position 3 race on the Tomball City Council, Bill Webb is being opposed by Rick Brown. Candidates have until March 8 to file a ballot to run. Election day is May 8.
