MWHS senior Ingram named Miss Magnolia

In a repeat of Tomball’s double-crowned Brooke Hopper, Magnolia West High School senior and Homecoming Queen Carter Ingram was crowned Miss Magnolia Feb. 13 at the 8th Annual Miss Magnolia Scholarship Pageant.

Ingram, who was sponsored by Goodson’s Café, beat out 13 other hopefuls for the title, which includes a $1,500 scholarship. Last year, Ingram was first runner-up in the pageant.

Rounding out the top three were first runner-up Sarah Lane, who received a $500 scholarship and second runner-up Tierra Neubaum, who received a $300 scholarship.

Almost a week after being crowned, Ingram said in an interview with the Tribune that she was “shocked” she won.

“I really thought the runner-up was going to win, so I was extremely shocked when I won,” she said. “I’m super excited.”

Ingram, daughter of Nathan and Lindy Ingram of Magnolia, was named homecoming queen last fall. She is a member of the Lady Mustang varsity cheerleading squad and is involved in the youth group at Woodland Oaks Church of Christ.

Having participated in the pageant before, Ingram said she wasn’t as nervous during this year’s program.

“I didn’t really have any expectations, I just went in there and did it for fun, really,” she said. “It helped a lot that I did it last year.”

Around 300 tickets were sold to the event that was put on by the Magnolia Area Chamber of Commerce and held at the Magnolia West auditorium.

A volunteer committee began planning the pageant last October.

Chamber president Alicia Roberts said the new Miss Magnolia’s duties will include taking part in ribbon-cutting ceremonies and various other community events.

“They (the winner) do attend certain community and Chamber functions as an ambassador for the community,” she said. “They’ll attend different things in the school district as a role-model and serve as an ambassador as their schedule allows.”

Ingram said she is most looking forward to being involved in the community and Chamber events in her year as Miss Magnolia.

“I’m just looking forward to meeting everyone in the Chamber and talking with them and seeing what all decisions need to be made and what events to go to,” she said.

Ingram plans to attend Harding University in Arkansas this fall on an academic scholarship and hopes to study speech pathology.
