Magnolia Election Update: Mayor Thornton not seeking re-election

jimmy thornton City of Magnolia Mayor Jimmy Thornton announced last week that he will not seek re-election in May’s municipal vote.

“I announced today at the Chamber luncheon that I will not seek the mayor job after May,” Thornton told the Tribune Feb. 25. “I’m going to hopefully pass my torch over to Todd Kana. I think Todd Kana is going to make a great mayor for the City of Magnolia.”

Thornton said the demands of his full-time job prevent him from being able to “devote the hours and manpower to the city of Magnolia like a mayor should.”

The Magnolia High School graduate has been mayor since 2004.

“It’s been a true pleasure, I’ve loved it,” Thornton said of his time in office.

In addition to the mayoral seat, two council seats are up for election in the city of Magnolia. As of press time last week, Kana was the lone applicant for the mayor’s seat.

Candidates have until March 8 to file a ballot to run. For more information, visit www.cityofmagnolia.com.

Election day is May 8.

Are we going to putting the FOX in the HEN HOUSE, and will the FOX put the HEN in his position as Councilmen? Beware, Kana promised numerous follow ups and investigations. Has he delivered? He has been right in the middle of everything with his brother Thornton endorsing him for Mayor is a RED FLAG!!!!!

Thornton said, he regrets he was not able to bring unity to the City. IF he wanted unity that means he would have to listen, thats what makes a good leader. But he only heard what he wanted to hear. When you get right down to the cutting HE (THORNTON) was the problem. That means if you are not for him or with his group you are against him, no give and take. Thats been pretty evident in his tenure.

YOU are not a leader and never will be. YOU are a used car salesman at best. YOU have no integrity or ethics, you are just a big blow hard!
