| McCaul wins easily, faces stiff challenge in November |
|
The 2010 Harris County Primary was, at least on a local level, more fizzle than sizzle. While Kay Bailey Hutchison and Rick Perry commanded the headlines for their battle in the Republican party’s nomination for Governor, the vast majority of Harris County races went unopposed as candidates gear up for bigger challenges in November. The race with the most impact on the Tomball community was that of U.S. Rep. for District 10, where two-time incumbent Michael McCaul is seeking a fourth consecutive term. He easily outlasted primary opponents Rick Martin and Joe Petronis March 2, garnering 82 percent of the vote and 46,842 votes. Martin (5,032 or 8.9 percent) and Petronis (4,649 or 8.2 percent) were well off the pace from giving McCaul a legitimate run for his money. McCaul will no doubt face a stiffer challenge in November when he goes up against Democrat Ted Ankrum in the general election. Ankrum ran unopposed in the Democratic primary. Dist. 7 State Senator Dan Patrick ran unopposed in the primary and will also see no competition in November as he will serve a second term. Dist. 130 State Rep. Allen Fletcher, like Patrick, also ran unopposed in the primary and will again in the general election. He will serve his second term in the State House.
