| DA’s Office awaiting final report in multiple fatality wreck |
|
Officials with the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office said March 3 that they are waiting for the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) to release its official report on the Jan. 10 crash that killed five people in Pinehurst.
The DA’s office said as soon as they receive the DPS’ official report, they would present it along with evidence their office has gathered on the case to a Montgomery County grand jury. Authorities have said 22-year-old Brandon Lee Ferguson was driving the car that caused the crash and was traveling at “an extremely high rate of speed” when the accident occurred. Racing may have been a factor in the wreck, police have said. Curtis Edwards, 78, Lloyd Edwards, 83, Catherine Edwards, 83, Karla Sexton, 59, Donald Sexton, 60, and Kayla Pratorius, 18, were all killed in the wreck, which occurred at the intersection of SH 249 and Patridge Circle. Pratorius was traveling in the car with Ferguson at the time of the accident. Phil Grant, a spokesperson with the DA’s office said, “We don’t have a complete file yet. We are waiting on the DPS to finish their investigation.” Lee Romero, the lead investigator for the DA’s office on the Ferguson case said, “We are actively investigating the case and are working very closely with the DPS. We will proceed in the case as soon as they finish their investigation.” Both said that multiple fatality wreck investigations can take “a while” to finish.
