With no opposition, Magnolia facing no May election

It looks to be an uneventful political season this spring in Magnolia. By late last week, the city had accepted no applications to oppose its three council members up for re-election this year.

City Council member Positions 1, 2 and 3 are all up for election.

The Magnolia City Secretary’s office will be accepting applications for a place on the ballot for the May 9 election until 5 p.m. March 9.

Currently only the incumbents, John Bramlett, Todd Kana and Sammie Scott, have turned in ballot applications. Bramlett and Scott were elected in May of 2007, while Kana was first elected to council in May 2005, and won re-election in May 2007.

If the city does not receive any applications to oppose the incumbents, the City Council will have the option to vote to forgo the election and automatically re-install the current councilmen.
