| Tomball EDC President to oppose Lazenby in council race |
|
While it appears there may not be a city council election in Magnolia, voters in Tomball will have an opportunity to go to the polls in May now that at least one opponent has entered the council race.
Mark Stoll, who currently serves as President of Tomball’s Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors, submitted his application to run for city council late last week. Stoll will be running for Position 2 on the Tomball Council, where he will face current incumbent Roy Lazenby. Lazenby was elected to his first term on city council in May 2006. Also up for re-election is Mary Harvey, who currently serves as the Mayor Pro-Tem as well as holding Position 4 on the council. For a while it appeared there may not have been an election this May. The city council formally announced the general election on Feb. 2, and for more than a month, no one had turned in a ballot to oppose Lazenby or Harvey. At press time last week, no one had filed to oppose Harvey. The deadline to submit an application for a place on the ballot is March 9 by 5 p.m. Applications must be turned in to Tomball City Hall. The Tomball City Council election is scheduled for May 9, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Early voting will be conducted from 7:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 7:45 a.m. to 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday, and from 7:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays from April 27 to May 5. Applications for ballot by mail should be mailed to: Doris Speer, 401 Market Street, Tomball, TX 77375. Applications for a ballot by mail presented in person must be received no later than the close of business at City Hall on April 24.
