|
In a first for the district, the school will enroll students in kindergarten through sixth grade. All other district elementary schools include kindergarten through fourth grade.
It is being paid for by the district’s $198 million bond that was approved by district voters in May of 2007.
According to the district, the project’s contractor, Gamma Construction, has completed the site paving and is currently installing the interior framing.
Several more construction projects are in various stages of completion, as well.
The district’s new Technology and Staff Development Center is scheduled to open in August and comes with a $5.2 million price tag. Roofing on the building has been completed and the interior framing is nearing completion.
This project consisted of the demolition of three classroom wings at the old Tomball Elementary School and will continue with the future demolition of the current Technology Building.
The new building will house the district servers and technology staff, as well as the Curriculum and Instruction content teachers and staff development rooms.
Tomball High School has recently seen the opening of the FFA Show Barn, which hosted its first public event, the FFA Show and Sale, on Jan. 30 and 31. In addition, THS also saw renovations to several Career and Technology classrooms, the renovation of the Technology Shop into a multi-purpose lab, renovations and air conditioning upgrades in the JROTC building, a new green house and a renovated press box at the school’s stadium.
Additional construction at the high school through the bond project will include construction of a new field house and a visitor’s side press box.
Scheduled to be completed next month are six additional kindergarten classrooms each at Decker Prairie and Lakewood Elementary schools.
Other projects the district is currently working on with money for the $198 million Bond 2007 project are $11 million worth of renovations and additions at Tomball Intermediate, Tomball Junior High and Tomball High School.
The district’s biggest ticket item is a second high school, with a price tag of approximately $60 million. Tomball Memorial High School is scheduled to open in August 2011 and will be located on a 146 acre site north of Northpointe Boulevard and south of Shaw Road.
According to the district, construction documents have been issued to the project’s contractor, Gilbane Builders, for pricing, as well as to Harris County for permitting.
