Kathrina Martin, a Broadcast Journalism teacher at Magnolia High School, has been named as one of the 20 finalists vying for the title of Secondary Teacher of the Year in Texas. The announcement was made by Dr. Jerry Hall, Deputy Director for Instructional Services at Region VI Education Service Center during the District’s convocation ceremony. This marks the second year in a row that Magnolia ISD has sent a teacher as a state finalist. Last year, Williams Elementary teacher Mary Campbell represented the district as an elementary finalist.

Martin was selected as the Secondary Teacher of the Year for Magnolia ISD last April. The 20-year veteran of the classroom remarked, “When I first began teaching, my goals were overly idealistic and I have come to understand that teaching isn’t about reaching one child, but stimulating knowledge, interest and growth in many children.”
