Magnolia ISD students compete in San Antonio Livestock Show |
|
Magnolia ISD FFA students recently competed at the San Antonio Livestock Show, showing their chickens and turkey projects. Morgan Barton, a senior at Magnolia High School, placed ninth overall and will auction her prize-winning projects on Feb. 18. Barton has been showing chickens and turkeys for six years and placed ninth at the Houston Livestock Show last year. She and her brother, Taylor Barton, exhibit poultry at a variety of local livestock shows. This was the students’ first attempt at raising birds for the San Antonio show with Morgan placing in the top ten and Taylor placing in the top 50 out of 135 contestants. Barton’s prize money will be used toward her college expenses in the fall. Other MISD students who attended the San Antonio show with poultry projects were Cherri Donahue and Coltin Walton. Both of these students exhibited turkey hens. Pictured, (from left to right) Bear Branch Junior High Livestock teacher Jana Wilson, Morgan Barton and San Antonio Livestock Show Judge Keith Scaggs.
