The City of Magnolia and the Magnolia Police Department celebrated National Peace Officer Memorial Day on May 15 at the pavilion in Unity Park. Magnolia Police Chief Domingo Ibarra said that there are 900,000 police officers currently serving in the U.S. This year 69 officers have died in the line of duty, he added. Tomball Police Chief Rob Hauck was also present and said that peace officer casualties can end now. “Let’s be kind to one another,” he said. Montgomery County Assistant District Attorney Warren Diepraam said in recent years, that the number one cause of peace officer fatalities is motor vehicle accidents.
