| Montgomery County Emergency Assistance helping with summer bills |
|
Montgomery County Emergency Assistance (MCEA) has funding available to assist with summer utility bills.
“We have a federal grant that ‘kicks in’ when temperatures become very hot or very cold during the year,” Executive Director David Hwa said. “Because June was brutally hot, this grant will potentially help pay the electricity bills for thousands in our community.”
To qualify, the household income must be below the 200 percent federal poverty level and applicants must have had utility service at their current residence for the past three months.
For example, for a single person to qualify, income must be below $21,780 per year. For a family of four, combined income must be below $44,700 annually.
“If we continue to have many days registering over 97 degrees, July or August may too qualify for eligible months,” Hwa said. “We’ll have to see.”
To apply for this assistance, call 936-539-9211, or pick up an application at MCEA’s office at 1022 McCall Avenue in Conroe.
