| Lone Star College students may still apply for financial aid |
|
Financial aid officials at Lone Star College System (LSCS) want students to know it’s time to apply for financial aid for the 2009-10 year.
“All students are encouraged to apply for financial aid,” said Jason Kot, LSCS financial aid director. “Unless students apply we cannot determine their eligibility for federal and state financial aid.” The financial aid would apply to the fall, spring and summer semesters. “Priority filing deadline is May 1, but even if students do not apply until later there may still be funds available,” Kot said. “This priority deadline does not affect eligibility for the federal Pell grant and Stafford loan programs.” Currently, 9,673 LSCS students are receiving more than $36 million in federal loans and grants while 3,169 students are receiving $2.77 million in state grants. Students wishing to attend the upcoming LSCS summer session and have not applied for financial aid still have time to complete the 2008-09 FAFSA and financial aid worksheet, Kot said. The deadline to register for the first summer session is May 30 and classes begin June 1. Steps for the financial aid process, along with forms and contact information can be found at www.lonestar.edu/6402/. The official government site for federal student aid is located at www.fafsa.ed.gov and it is always free to apply.
