Local turns over baby deer to animal rescue

deer pic Tatum Berry, 7, of Magnolia, sleeps next to a baby deer her family took in after a neighbor found it in their backyard and brought it to them, hoping they knew how to take care of the small animal. “My daughter was so concerned and excited about our unlikely visitor that she had to sleep on the floor next to her,” said Shelly Berry, Tatum’s mother. The deer, a male, was given by the family to an animal rescuer the next day.

The purpose of this story getting to the newspaper was to spread the word to the public about what to do, in the event that someone find an "abandoned" or "orphaned" baby animal. That story didn't make it but, Tatum is now a local celebrity, nonetheless!-- She's just TICKLED PINK about it!!

This is the season for does to drop their fawns. You do such a disservice to
show this picture of a fawn found in a backyard, that has been "rescued" by a
family and taken into their home. Does leave their fawns in a safe place, so
they can feed during the day, returning to nurse the fawns at different times.
The fawns have NOT been abandoned, mother will return. We've had a number of
fawns born in our 2 acre fenced backyard, including a pair that refused to leave
until they were 5 months old. PLEASE print something that tells people NOT to
touch or move the fawns, unless they are in an ant nest. Mom will be back--I bet
the mother of this fawn is still looking for him.
