Magnolia teachers embrace 21st Century training

misd teachers Magnolia ISD teachers recently took part in the Teaching and Learning in the 21st Century Training (TL 21), a two-day training which focuses on effective teaching strategies. This professional development is infused with technology, opportunities to collaborate and strategize, and ideas about how to customize content and delivery to better meet the needs of 21st century students.

The Magnolia Curriculum Leadership Team created TL 21 to provide teachers with the most current instructional tools and ideologies. Through learning about the tools of a 21st century classroom and the best ways to use them, teachers can move instruction into the world in which the students live. Teachers had the opportunity to view real models of successful classroom instruction and were presented many tools to help them plan and implement the strategies of a modern classroom environment.

Anita Hebert, the Executive Director of Curriculum for Magnolia ISD, said, “We can no longer deliver instruction using the assembly line model of the industrial age. For our students to succeed in school and beyond, they must develop a skill set which will allow them to flourish in any setting using whatever tools happen to be available at the time.”

MISD Director of Science Laurel Frank added “Our goal as a curriculum team is to use staff development to model the great teaching strategies we'd like to see in Magnolia classrooms. Teachers are eager to implement proven practices that are good for kids.”
