Magnolia PD looking for MVP’s

Have you ever wanted to be a MVP? Do you know any MVP’s? The Magnolia Police Department (MPD) is actively seeking and hoping to recruit several MVP’s for an exciting new program which starts in September. MPD is looking for people who want to become Magnolia Volunteers in Policing (MVP), assisting the police department to better serve the citizens of the Magnolia Community.

Earlier this year the Planning Commission asked Police Chief Michna if the department could use volunteers and if so, where and how.  Members of the department quickly identified 12 areas in which volunteers could make major contributions.  Some projects included: performing crime analysis; conducting business and vacation checks; and assisting as a Records Clerk.

However, those functions that need immediate attention are: code enforcement, entering and analyzing data from pawn tickets, vehicle maintenance; parade and special events; enforcing handicap parking and emergency management.

If you would like to volunteer a few hours per month and become a member of the Magnolia Volunteers in Policing, you are encouraged to call the Magnolia Police Department at (281) 356-2500 and speak with Vickie Butler-Rindos, the volunteer coordinator. In addition to some rather strict requirements such as a background check, a review of your driving history, mandatory attendance at the training sessions, you should live or work in the Magnolia community or have children in the Magnolia Schools.
