| SOS holiday programs target local families in need |
|
The Society of Samaritans (SOS) has began its annual Thanksgiving and Christmas special projects. These projects meet the needs of low-income families in the Magnolia community. During these difficult economic times, the holidays will have an even greater impact on those families with little or no income.
SOS provides all the necessary food items to prepare a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. This will help brighten the holiday of the families who are struggling. At Christmas, clients are provided food items for a Christmas dinner, as well as toys for children ages birth through high school. Eligible students must be enrolled in Magnolia ISD. Anyone signing up for the holidays must have proof of residence (current utility bill), photo ID, and a list of monthly expenses and income. Clients must sign a release form for SOS to verify any information if necessary. SOS will be signing up families for Thanksgiving on Oct. 26 and 30, Nov. 6, 9 and 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Christmas signups will be held Dec. 7, 11 and 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. SOS is currently seeking volunteers for the holiday season. Also, SOS is now accepting donations of non-perishable food for holiday meals, as well as financial donations. SOS is anticipating a larger number of families this year so the need for financial assistance is great.
