Lone Star College-Tomball will launch a new weekend class schedule in January designed to expand educational opportunities for new and currently enrolled students.
With the expanded class schedule, students will be able to take classes specifically designed to fulfill core course requirements on Friday, Saturday and Sundays.
Kathy Sanchez, Dean of Education, English and Math, said this schedule will benefit those seeking to complete their degree but who may need to work or be at home on weekdays and to students who may have limited access to transportation or childcare.
“We wanted to provide some more options to our students,” Sanchez said. “We felt that offering once-a-week courses on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays would allow more flexibility for those students who want or need a face-to-face classroom learning experience but are limited in their availability during the week.”
“We built courses specifically for those students wanting to fulfill their core course requirements, those who are working toward a health science degree, and those interested in business programs,” she said.
LSC-Tomball already offers many weekend classes at its satellite center, LSC-Willow Chase, which will be relocating to LSC-University Park in January. However, the college instructional staff recognized a need to offer that option to students at the Tomball campus and to the Tomball/Magnolia communities.
Types of courses to be offered include accounting, art, biology, chemistry, computer information technology, economics, English, literature, government, history, mathematics, kinesiology, psychology and sociology.
