Magnolia to celebrate opening of Stroll with festival

Magnolia Stroll and Market Day on April 24 is open to local non-profit organizations that want to participate in this celebration marking the premiere opening of the Magnolia Stroll. The Stroll is a unique outdoor walkway in the heart of the city stretching one-half mile from Magnolia Parkway (FM 1488) to Sanders Street.

“This inner-city green market space has been in the making for years,” Katrina Welch, Magnolia Projects and Events Coordinator said. “But it is so much more than just a walkway, it is an extension of the depot complex, which is unique to Magnolia’s heritage and it is a part of the city’s downtown revitalization project targeting new and expanded commerce.”

The Magnolia downtown revitalization project, funded with sales tax revenues, was approved by the city in anticipation of the widening of Magnolia Boulevard by the Texas Department of Transportation. The Stroll is one block west of Magnolia Boulevard and will eventually be a gateway to the city’s new 30-acre Unity Park.

Magnolia Stroll and Market Day will mark the opening and dedication of the downtown project. Vendors and non-profit organizations are invited to join this celebration at no cost. There will be “strolling” entertainment, children’s activities, art, music and a variety of food kiosks along the Stroll. In addition, the Magnolia Farmer’s Market, located across the street from the north entrance to the Stroll, will be open to the public as well.

The Magnolia Stroll and Market Day will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a dedication ceremony at 11 a.m. Non-profit organizations wishing to participate may contact Welch at 281-356-2266, or go by City Hall at 18111 Buddy Riley Blvd.
