| Lone Star College System signs agreement with University of Maryland |
|
The agreement, called an articulation agreement, will include $3,300 scholarships available to LSCS students by UMUC that will offset the out-of–state tuition, according to Dr. Richard Carpenter, LSCS chancellor.
Carpenter and Susan C. Aldridge, UMUC president, celebrated the occasion by signing documents at a ceremony at LSC-University Park.
“This is a monumental day for us,” Carpenter said. “I don’t believe we have any university partners that are as prolific as UMUC.”
LSCS students will be able to complete their two-year degree programs at LSCS and then can pursue a variety of state-of-the-art bachelor’s degree programs offered by UMUC from anywhere in the country.
“I applaud the leadership and vision of Lone Star College,” Aldridge said. “Our shared values are to educate students in the world, wherever they are.
“These partnerships are a model for the country and, as growth-oriented institutions, we can offer flexible and affordable transfer options to students pursuing a four-year degree,” said Aldridge.
UMUC has built alliance agreements and partnerships with all 16 two-year colleges in the state of Maryland and with about 20 of the largest two-year colleges in the U.S., including LSCS. UMUC is the largest state university in the U.S. with 94,000-plus students.
Although headquartered in Adelphi, Md., the UMUC student body spans across the world. The college serves the largest military population worldwide, with more than 150 face-to-face teaching locations in 26 countries and it has the largest on-line program of any U.S. public university.
Carpenter noted that LSCS and UMUC were alike in many ways, including how the college deals with it students.
