S.O.S. director’s condition improving, remains in hospital

Society of Samaritans founder and director Judy Everett remained hospitalized as of press time last week, but her condition had improved, according Everett’s daughter-in-law, Crystal.

“She’s doing a lot better,” Crystal said. “She hasn’t looked this good in a year.”

Everett was recently hospitalized and diagnosed with congenital heart failure, pneumonia and severe anemia. She had been on medical leave from S.O.S. for about two months prior.

Crystal said Everett has slowly been getting over the pneumonia and had minimal damage from a heart attack.

“Her prognosis is great,” she said. “When she came in, she was pretty much on her death bed. If we hadn’t found her, she would have died over something treatable.”

She said doctors were most concerned with Everett’s pneumonia at first because of the amount of fluid in her lungs.

Crystal said Everett will be going home soon and that there will be people there on rotation to help her.

A benefit for Everett will take place Sunday, June 6 from 12 to 6 p.m. at Spurs Country Western Dance Hall on FM 1488 in Magnolia. Barbecue brisket sandwiches will be served and a silent and live auction will take place.
