| Spirit of Magnolia Fourth of July booths still available |
|
There is still time to join in the second annual Spirit of Magnolia Fourth of July celebration with a vendor booth. Restaurants from the greater Magnolia area are encouraged to be a part of this fast-growing Magnolia tradition expected to host 5,000 or more this July 4. Organizers believe the event took away from local dining business last year, but this year they hope to partner with the restaurants and spotlight local fare.
“With popular restaurants like Magnolia Diner and Hickory Hollow leading the participation, I expect there will be plenty of local choices at the Fourth celebration,” Ron Davis, Magnolia Historical Society member and co-chair of the food vendors committee said. “We will also have art and craft booths along with non-profits, including local churches providing snacks as well.” Magnolia United Methodist Church is rolling out its new ice cream carts for the second annual Fourth celebration. Ice cream novelties will be available from the carts and other non-profit organizations are invited to participate with snow cones, drinks and the like. Food vendors are not the only booths that will be offered. Along with arts and crafts, organizations, businesses and individuals are invited to set up informational booths. Electricity and water booths are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Commercial food booths are $100, art and craft booths are $50 and there is no charge for non-profit booths. Make plans now to attend the second annual Spirit of Magnolia Fourth of July, sponsored by the Magnolia Historical Society, in Unity Park. Admission is free, as are numerous activities for all ages, including water games and bouncers. Unity Park facilities and playground equipment including a splash pad will be open for the event as well. Fireworks will begin at dusk. Festivities kick-off at 2 p.m. with a parade on Nichols Sawmill Road. Anyone wishing to participate as a vendor at the Spirit of Magnolia Fourth of July celebration may contact Katrina Welch, Magnolia Projects and Events Coordinator, at 281-356-2266, or visit, cityofmagnolia.com.
