Magnolia shooting victim remains hospitalized, search still on for suspects

A Magnolia man shot while sitting in his vehicle May 31 remained hospitalized as of press time last week.

Veronico M. Trujillo, 64, was ambushed and shot in the head while sitting in his truck at the entrance to his property, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO).

Patrol units were dispatched to the 14000 block of Mill Creek Drive around 5:50 p.m. May 31 where they found Trujillo with a single gunshot wound to the head. Witnesses told authorities that two males came out of the woods from across the street and began shooting as Trujillo arrived at his property.

Trujillo was taken by air ambulance to Memorial Hermann Hospital in downtown Houston.

A motive for the shooting has not been determined and authorities are still searching for suspects as they wait to interview the victim.

The shooter, who witnesses said was using a handgun, is described as a white male in his late teens to early 20s with a short haircut. Details regarding the second suspect are “incomplete and conflicting,” according to a press release from the MCSO.

Authorities are continuing to process and evaluate evidence involved in the shooting.

The case is currently being investigated by the MCSO Major Crimes Unit and the Texas Rangers.
