Drug raid at site of noted Tomball family nets one arrest

A nearly two-year investigation into illegal narcotic activity has resulted in the second arrest of a member of a Tomball area family well-known for their community involvement and roots in the area.

Johnny Cody Mueller, 28, was arrested by Tomball Police June 24 after a multi-agency raid on the Mueller’s property on Stanolind just outside of Tomball. Mueller was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, a first degree felony, after he was found with a little over 5 grams of crystal methamphetamine.

The raid involved members of the Tomball Police Department, Houston PD Narcotics Division and the Texas Department of Public Safety.

This is the second time in two years Mueller has been arrested in connection with illegal narcotics. According to a Tomball PD detective with knowledge of the case, Mueller was also apprehended July 30, 2009 and charged with illegal manufacturing and delivery of narcotics, also a first degree felony.

The detective explained that Mueller was “trying to make a (drug) lab,” but that there wasn’t a “full blown lab” at the site.

In addition to Mueller’s arrest that year, Stephen Perdue was also arrested and charged with possession with the intent to deliver and felon in possession of a firearm.

Due to the fact that weapons were discovered during the first incident last year, the Tomball PD detective explained that several officers were dispatched to the raid, in addition to the possibility that several known felons would be at the scene.

The detective explained that during the July 2009 search, 13 citizens with felony convictions were at the scene. During the June 24 raid, six were identified, he added.

While Mueller was arrested for possession, officers also found several stolen items at the scene, including motorcycles, vehicle equipment, welders and more. The detective explained that Mueller would likely not be charged with the alleged thefts since he is already facing the more stringent charge of first degree felony.

As of press time last week, Mueller remained in the Harris County Jail. Tomball PD detective stated Mueller was not given bond.

The Mueller family is perhaps best known for their annual barbecue fundraiser, which this year was put on for the 22nd consecutive year. The event benefits the Magnolia Volunteer Fire Department.

A representative for the Mueller family was unable to be reached for comment as of press time last week.

It is with the Mueller families' deepest regret that one of our own has been involved in these alleged crimes. While Cody Mueller is in deed a troubled young man, the rest of the Mueller family resides quietly within the community. Unfortunatley, all families have their problems and the entire Mueller family should not be held accountable for the actions of one. The annual BBQ benefit was started 22 years ago by Mary and Mox Mueller. The family has continued this fundraiser as a way of giving back to the community. The property in question is adjacent to the location of the annual benefit. We want it understood that the annual community service event is not part of the property where these alleged offenses took place. The Mueller family would like to have it dually noted that no other family member was involved in these accusations. Furthermore,we hope that the our relationship with the community has not be tarnished. Our family wishes the best for Cody and asks the community to keep him in their thoughts and prayers.

The Mueller family is a fine group of people. The entire family should not be judge by the actions of one family member. Sometimes children raised with the best morals in the best families choose a different path in life.
