| Magnolia making big plans for new city park |
|
Magnolia residents will have one more reason to celebrate this coming Fourth of July.
Officials with the City of Magnolia are currently working on a plan to bring a fireworks show to the city for an Independence Day festival.
“This is very, very important to us,” Magnolia City Administrator Ryan Kelley said. “We are going to have fireworks this year.”
The festival is being co-sponsored by the city and Montgomery County.
“We will also be dedicating the new city park on that day,” Kelley said.
The fireworks show, along with the Magnolia Music Festival, is being funded by the city’s hotel/motel tax. The tax is allocated to help fund events that draw tourism to the city.
Kelley said the initial plans call for a family-fun atmosphere with plenty to do.
“This is going to be a patriotic family event for all ages,” he said. “We are going to have rides, games, a watermelon patch for the young kids and if everything works out, a firemen versus policemen tug-of-war.”
Kelley also said that work is “progressing nicely on the new city park.” “We have already cleared most of the land,” he said. “We should be starting work out there in the next couple of weeks.”
