| Magnolia sets regulations for Unity Park |
|
Magnolia’s Unity Park will soon institute rules and regulations, including a speed limit and a leash law. At a Sept. 14 council meeting, members voted to pass rules and regulations for the city’s newly-built, 30-plus acre park, pending ordinances being drawn up. Among the regulations, a 15 mile-per-hour speed limit will be set along Unity Park Drive between Nichols Sawmill Road and Cloyd Street, according to documents released by the city. Those who exceed the limit can expect to be cited with a misdemeanor and be fined up to $200. Park rules will include no glass containers, no firearms, no loud music, no loud, obscene or abusive language, no littering, no alcohol consumption on park ground unless sanctioned for a special event, no open fires, except in provided pits for cooking, no hunting and no 4-wheelers, motorbikes, ATVs or dirt bikes. As for minors at the park, those 13 years of age and under must be accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times. The regulations also call for dogs to be leashed at all times and animal feces collected and disposed of in trash containers provided. Sale of goods is prohibited in the park, unless approved for a special event and soliciting will not be allowed. Overnight camping is prohibited with the exception of the Boy Scouts or other groups with city approval. Signs are not allowed to be posted other than city-approved signs, as per the sign ordinance. The park, which had been in the works for three years, was funded by the city’s 4A Corporation. 4A uses sales tax revenue to help spur economic development in the city. The park was also funded in part through a grant from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. For more information on Unity Park rules and regulations, contact the city at 281-356-2266.
