A Spring man is dead after police say he robbed a local retail store and led police on a chase before turning a gun on himself. Brandon Ray Dalton, 26, of Spring entered the AT&T store in the 6500 block of FM 1488 near FM 2978 in Magnolia on Oct. 6 at approximately 5:30 p.m., approached two sales associates and lifted his shirt revealing a gun tucked into his waistband. Dalton demanded that the associates give him money, telling them “this is not a joke.” According to Lt. Dan Norris of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Dalton fled the scene in his vehicle without injuring anyone and with an undisclosed amount of money. One of store’s employees called 911 and provided police with information about the vehicle in which Dalton fled, as well as the direction in which he drove. Dep. Jack Kimpton located Dalton’s vehicle traveling east on FM 1488 nearing I-45. The Sheriff’s Office reported that Dalton refused to stop and led Kimpton on a chase through the Forest Hills subdivision and back to I-45, traveling north. Dalton then turned south on I-45 at River Plantation Drive. The Sheriff’s Office report stated that Dalton then attempted to turn into a driveway leading to the College Park Shopping Center on SH 242, but collided with Kimpton’s patrol car and a third vehicle. As Kimpton approached, Dalton shot and killed himself inside his vehicle. Norris said there were no injuries in the accident. The Sheriff’s Office said last week that the incident is under investigation by the department’s Major Crimes Unit, as well as the Texas Rangers.
