Vandalism at Unity Park

Unity Park took its first hit of vandalism on Monday, Oct 18, when two Magnolia West High School students, ages 15 and 17, allegedly skipped class and headed for the park with harmful intentions.

According to Det. Brian Clack of the Magnolia Police Department, the suspects had taken some over the counter medications before walking to the park. Once they arrived clack said they broke the door leading into the restroom facilities from its hinges. They are also believed to have busted the glass blocks in the wall of the back side of the female restrooms.

Member of the Magnolia Planning Commission, Jonny Williams, expressed his frustration with the situation.

“We intend to aggressively pursue these types of acts and use the full extent of the law that is allowed,” said Williams.

Both suspects are charged with Class A misdemeanors for criminal mischief. Clack reported that the suspects could receive fines and possibly jail time.

“It’s up to the judge to decide,” he said.

The park has been in the works for more than three years and finally came to life through the efforts of the Magnolia’s 4A Corp and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

“With the economy in the shape that it is in and these tough conditions, we are still trying to provide the park because people appreciate it,” said Williams.

Williams explained that any misuse of the park or inappropriate activities will not be tolerated.

The rules of the parks were made official last week, which was part of the Planning Commission’s original plan for the park.

Keeping with the ordinances, Williams made a statement promoting the well being of the park.

“Where charges are filed, the person who reported the incident and their spouse will get a free dinner at a Magnolia restaurant, or any officer making a citation will get a free dinner in Magnolia,” Williams said, in regards to crime at the park.

Williams intends to implement this plan until January at which point he will review its success and what alterations need to be made.

Just great Mr. Williams, you created a quota for magnolia police, this will come back to bite the city when these citizens start getting any kind of citations in the city. Quotas are illegal if you didn't know. You and your wife, amongst other people in the city should just stay out of politics before you wind up getting indicted, which I hope i live to see.
