2010 Ren Fest sets attendance record

The 36th Annual Texas Renaissance Festival witnessed record-breaking attendance this season, welcoming 450,000 guests through the Royal Gates between Oct. 9 and Nov. 28.

That number is up from the 411,000 guests who attended the Festival in 2009.

The Festival set new attendance records throughout the eight-weekend run, including boosting Sunday’s best attendance record to 28,135 and the largest Saturday this season on closing weekend, where 36,848 people passed through the gates.

“We are thrilled to see that the Texas Renaissance Festival is an event that people of all ages enjoy attending annually,” said General Manager Terre Albert. “We welcomed record-breaking crowds this year, including more than 76,500 people for closing weekend alone. We had a lot of first-time guests in attendance this year and we hope to see them return year after year in order to experience the authentic sights, sounds and flavors of the 16th century.”

The Renaissance Festival also reported that group events and wedding bookings increased this season with 18 group gatherings and 33 weddings held during the Festival, averaging two weddings per day at one of the five wedding venues on the property.

The 6th Annual School Days also enjoyed its most successful year yet, with 1,026 entries where students competed in a variety of competitions in theater, music and literature.  The two-day event took place in November with 32,000 students in attendance and 77 scholarships awarded to qualifying students.

The 2011 Texas Renaissance Festival will be held Saturdays, Sundays and Thanksgiving Friday, Oct. 8 through Nov. 27, 2011.  School Days will take place Nov. 1 & 2, 2011.  For more information, group sales and wedding bookings, call 800-458-3435 or visit www.texrenfest.com.
