| Sex Offender search program now available to Montgomery County residents |
|
Last week, Montgomery County Sheriff Tommy Gage announced the implementation of a new tool to help keep citizens of Montgomery County informed about sex offenders who may live in close proximity to their homes, places of work, schools and daycare centers. Last week saw the launch of “Offender Watch,” a sex offender registry that allows anyone to search for the presence of registered sex offenders as well as safety tips concerning those offenders. This tool is being provided to the citizens in a form that can easily be used any time day or night. Anyone may enter any address of interest and see a map and listing of offenders within one mile of that address and then can register their address to be continuously monitored. This will send an e-mail alerting them if an offender should register an address within one mile of their registered address. There is no cost for the use of this system and there is not a limit on the number of addresses that can be monitored. “The purpose of this system is to lessen the anxiety of our citizens by proactively alerting them should an offender move within the proximity of the address they have registered,” Gage said. “This will enhance the security and safety of all of our citizens.” To access “Offender Watch,” go to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office website at www.mocosheriff.com and look for the Sex Offender Search button.
