Tomball Chamber Chairman’s Ball turns into circus

lion party The Greater Tomball Area Chamber of Commerce (GTACC) pulled this year’s Chairman’s Ball out of a hat. GTACC hosted its annual Chairman’s Ball Jan. 21 at Shirley Acres in Houston.

The theme for the event was “Under the Big Top,” with many of the estimated 160 guests in attendance dressing in circus costumes for the occasion.

Clowns, lions and lion tamers were seen throughout the event and guests not outfitted for the event could get a balloon hat upon entering.

Pictured are guests dressed in circus attire for the occasion such as this group, including a lion and lion tamer.

Citizen of the Year 2010 Deborah Petty was able to enjoy her reception prior to the ball as a slideshow played in her honor.

In addition, a live auction, games and a popcorn stand were available until dinner was served. Items in the silent auction included paintings, golf clubs, a basketball goal and gift cards.

New Chairman of the Board T.J. Tijerina officially introduced himself to the guests and GTACC. He then addressed outgoing Chairman Leo Corley, thanked him for his efforts and presented him an award.

Last Year’s Citizen of the Year David Quinn stepped to the stage to pass down his citizen award and introduce Petty.

“She is extremely deserving of the award,” Quinn said. “She has contributed so much to the community and the Greater Tomball Area Chamber of Commerce.”

Petty expressed her love and passion for Tomball. She told the audience of her husband and his long distance travels to work because he and Petty are committed to Tomball and would not want to live anywhere else.

“This is the hometown with the biggest heart,” she said.

Following Petty, Houston magician and comedian Curt Miller took the stage and the attention of the audience.

Miller caught everyone by surprise with his jokes and light-hearted jabs at guests. He took advantage of those in the audience by incorporating them into his humorous magic tricks.

The night wound down and guests were able to mingle and dance.
