President Billy Anderson and President-Elect Real Provencher announced three individuals who have demonstrated the values of Rotary Club founder Paul Harris through their service.

The individuals were named the Paul Harris Fellows.

Past President Judy Bode received the award because of her leadership, according to Provencher.

“Judy believes in being all in,” he said.

Also earning the Paul Harris Award was Deborah Rose Miller who initiated the “Spaghetti Bowl” fundraiser.

Provencher said she is a hard-worker and one of the most active persons in the community.

“There really is not a lot that happens in Magnolia that is important that doesn’t involve Deborah,” he said.

The final recipient of the award was Society of Samaritans (SOS) Founder Judy Everett. Provencher described to those in the audience her efforts to give away clothes from her front door prior to founding SOS.

The Rotary Club of Magnolia participates in international and local service activities such as sending textbooks overseas and teaming up with the local YMCA.

However, the original goal of the Rotary Club was to eradicate polio. Provencher updated Rotarians on the status of polio in the world. In 1985, 125 countries had widespread polio. Currently, only four countries still have the disease prevalent.

The Rotary Club of Magnolia meets Tuesdays at noon in the Celeste Graves Education Support Center located on Nichols Sawmill.
