Two-car collision leaves 6 injured, electricity pole severed

The Tomball Police Department (TPD) responded to a two-car collision where 6 people were injured and an electricity pole was destroyed in the 300 block of Main Street on March 1.

According to Police Chief Rob Hauck, around 7:30 p.m. a small passenger car carrying 4 teenagers was headed east on Main Street. The car attempted to make a left turn and collided with a pick-up truck carrying two adults about 50 years old heading west on Main Street. The collision caused the pick-up to veer off the road and into an electricity pole.

When TPD arrived, Hauck said people in both vehicles had to be extracted with heavy equipment and both vehicles appeared to be “absolutely totaled.”

The female passenger in the pick-up truck suffered head injuries and was life-flighted to Memorial Herman Hospital in Houston. The male driver of the truck was taken to Tomball Regional Hospital. The 4 teenagers were also taken to Tomball Regional Hospital.

TPD cleared the scene within an hour by removing vehicles and placing barricades on Main Street to reroute the traffic.

However, Hauck said the truck was left in its place against the electricity pole until receiving notice from CenterPoint Energy that it was safe for removal.

“CenterPoint literally had to bring in a new pole,” Hauck said. “The pole was completely severed.”

CenterPoint worked on replacing the pole until nearly 3 a.m., Hauck stated.

Hauck reported that the driver of the car was cited for allegedly making an unsafe left turn.

It was not apparent whether the driver of the car was under the influence of drugs or alcohol or if speeding was a factor. The department’s patrol division is still investigating the accident.
