Montgomery County Sheriff Tommy Gage announced last week that Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Communications Supervisor Denise Jimenez was nominated and selected to receive the Texas Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International Public Safety Communications Line Supervisor of the Year Award.
The award will be given on April 5 at an awards luncheon in San Marcos at the annual State APCO Conference. Jimenez was nominated by Lt. Joe Sclider and Captain Peggy Frankhouser.
Jimenez went to work for the Sheriff’s Office in 1993 to take calls and act as the radio operator and since that time has been promoted to the office supervisor.
“What sets Denise Jimenez apart is her dedication to her chosen profession. She is responsible for all day-to-day operations of a busy communications center and is tasked with the planning and operational issues of a very busy public safety call center,” Gage said.
Gage also announced last week that Dep. David Birch and K-9 unit Argo earned awards at the United States Police Canine Association Trials (USPCA). Birch and Argo recently attended the USPCA Trials hosted by the Conroe Independent School District Police Department. In attendance were approximately 25 teams of handlers and their canine partners from all across Texas, mostly from the Dallas Metroplex area. Birch and Argo earned certifications in narcotics detection and tracking and patrol. They also won four awards in Criminal Apprehension, Tracking, Overall Patrol and the “Rookie Dog” Award. Birch and Argo have only been partners for a few months but have already made an impact within the community by enhancing the patrol functions of the Sheriff’s Office. Birch and Argo are assigned to the District III Patrol area in the eastern part of the county but assist in all the geographical areas when needed. Birch has been with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office for three years. Argo is a 4-year-old German Sheppard from the Czech Republic.
