TOMAGWA fundraiser shows influence of Christian clinic

tomagwa TOMAGWA Healthcare Ministries held its annual Beyond the Band-Aid Fundraising Breakfast on April 5 and announced its hopes for 2011 as it reached out to those in the audience for help.

Board Vice President Rob Hauck welcomed guests in the Conference Center at Lone Star College – Tomball.

Donors, volunteers and board members each spoke about their experiences with TOMAGWA and the efforts the clinic has made.

One patient gave her testimonial and said her mother “would have loved a clinic like TOMAGWA.”

A video was played showing three children who had been abandoned at a gas station by their mother. Their father was in prison and an uncle, the closest relative, was financially unstable to support the children. The children were brought to TOMAGWA for medical attention.

Following the video, Executive Director Judy Deyo explained the purpose of the clinic.

“The clinic is a wonderful place where we can care for people,” she said.

A volunteer nurse said the “clinic is a starting point of hope.” She called on guests by saying, “we can all be used some way.”

Deyo said her dream is to expand the clinic.

TOMAGWA is currently working on establishing a facility in Magnolia.

She asked those in the audience to “help us build a healthy community for everyone.”

TOMAGWA announced that local corporate donors have agreed to match each donation made in 2011 up to $167,000.

In addition Paula Whitaker, mother of Ryan Paul Whitaker to whom the clinic is dedicated, said she is offering two scholarships to students at Lone Star College – Tomball who are seeking nursing degrees.

TOMAGWA was founded in 1989. The clinic is a full-time, full-service primary care center with a small staff backed by a team of volunteers.

According to Deyo, TOMAGWA relies on individual donations to help fund the clinic’s operations. For more information, visit www.tomagwa.org or call 281-357-0747.
