In 2010 Lopez was the responding officer to a motor vehicle accident in Magnolia involving a train. Reports of the accident were televised locally, in the U.S. and internationally. One arrest was made from the accident investigation by Lopez.

In all, MPD reported 49 DWI arrests between Jan. 1 and Dec 31, 2010, Lopez made 24 of these. MPD Chief Domingo Ibarra said Lopez is a team leader.

“Cpl. Lopez is a good officer and leader in the Magnolia Police Department. Although he is most recognized from the train/vehicle accident last year, he has been dedicated to law enforcement and traffic safety for many years. We are fortunate to have him on our team,” Ibarra said.

Concerning the departmental award, Ibarra said MPD participated in the No Refusal Weekend last fall and made more arrests than larger agencies in Montgomery County

“We gave the campaign a top priority, for us it is a traffic safety issue,” he said.

Last February MPD also garnered the Municipality of the Year award handed out by the Montgomery County District Attorney’s office at the Vehicular Crimes Task Force Awards Ceremony.
