Constable’s office warns about money scams

Montgomery County Pct. 5 Constable David Hill is warning area residents about alleged money scams.

According to Hill, two local senior citizens have reported being “badgered” on phone calls with callers asking them to send money in the form of a gift card and, in return, the resident will receive millions of dollars.

“This is a scam from the word ‘Go,’” Hill said. “We are warning senior citizens to refrain from it.”

Hill said in one incident the resident was asked to send a $1,000 gift card and, in exchange, he would receive $5.5 million. The resident notified the Constable’s Office.

In the second incident, a Magnolia woman was asked to send $750 in the form of a gift card and, in exchange, she would receive $1 million.

Hill added that in both instances the scam artists continue to call, even after the resident has declined their offer.

One caller has been traced out of state and another has been traced overseas, according to Hill. Both reports are under investigation with the Constable’s Office.

Hill said that residents who feel that there is a scam in progress should call the Constable’s Office.
